Karla Mayfield (Zimpel)

Karla Dawn Zimpel, 50, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at her home in Broken Arrow, Okla. Karla was born April 6, 1961, in Wagoner, Okla., the daughter of Arnold “Dean” and Rosalea (Thompson) Mayfield. The former Miss Karla Dawn Mayfield was a 1979 graduate of Edison High School in Tulsa.

She married David Zimpel July 9, 1983 in Tulsa. They moved to Broken Arrow in 1986 from Tulsa. Karla was a homemaker and had worked at Western National Bank as a clerical assistant. She enjoyed gardening, growing roses, feeding the birds, fishing and camping. She was named Broken Arrow Football Mom in 2002 and 2003. She was a member of Tulsa Christian Women’s Group and the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow. 

Karla touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. She was always willing to help.

She is survived by, husband, David Zimpel, Broken Arrow; son, Brian Zimpel, Tulsa; daughter, Staci and husband Patrick Longacre, Broken Arrow; step-son, Doug and wife Jessica Zimpel, Tulsa; mother, Rosalea Mayfield, Tulsa; mother-in-law Mae Kilpatrick, Jenks; grandmother Ruth Wilson, Hulbert, Okla.; grandchildren, Rowen Longacre and Calliope Zimpel; sister, Trina Rogers, Tulsa; brother, Damon and wife Shelly Mayfield, Tulsa; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

Services for Karla Dawn Zimpel were scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Hayhurst Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa under the direction of Hayhurst.
